![]() ![]() If you want to install arch linux, you will want to check their wiki page on the MBP8,2. The instructions should work out of the box for any distro derivative of Ubuntu (such as Mint, but also others) You will just have to adapt the instructions using apt-get (towards the end) with the distro's package manager. The instructions by lostfarmer should work for basically any distribution that uses grub (which is all of them AFAIK) and that provides an installer from a live USB/CD. I dont know if other MBP are better supported, you can try to look in the hardware database : I think that learning how to work around the problem is worth it, as it will teach you about linux, and get you a foot in to troubleshoot problems you may (will) encounter in the future. Throwing out your current computer is a radical and costly decision. (in fact I even found that the graphic card PCI is correctly initialized, so you just really need the line for the bridge). You just need to find the good numbers to put in those lines, that is finding what is the PCI address of the graphic card and the bridge to it. I dont know what the problem with the MBP 8,2 is, but if it's similar you can easily adapt the solution. It's simple, you just have to add two lines to /etc/grub.d/40_custom (better than in /etc/grub.d/01_enable_vga.conf as done in the link provided) then "sudo update-grub". Keeping previous post for history.įor the MBP 7,1 (mine is from 2010) there is a workaround to get the nvidia driver to work : This Arch Linux wiki post may be useful to you. EDIT : The MBP 8,2 does not seem to have the same problems as the 7,1. ![]()
